Low temperature nitration of 2-methylimidazole gave intermediates, which were aminated to form 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene .The synthesis route in literature was magnified properly and reaction conditions were optimized. The overall yield was 14.9%.The structure of DADE was characterized by IR, MS, NMR and elemental analysis.
