Guide for Authors

Chinese Journal of Energetic Materials(CJEM) is a professional publication containing Full Papers, Short Communications, critical Reviews, as well as details of forthcoming meetings and book reviews concerned with theories and experiments for energetic Materials(EMs). It is devoted to advancing the science, technology and engineering elements in the storage and manipulation of chemical energy, specifically in propellants, explosives and pyrotechnics. Being the official journal of the Institute of Chemical Materials, China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), CJEM is a vital medium and the state-of-the-arts, and publishes forum for the exchange of science and technology in energetic materials monthly.

CJEM offers double-blind peer review.

When preparing a manuscript for double-blind peer review, check these common places where manuscripts and submission files may reveal an author’s identity.

Do not include names or affiliations anywhere in the manuscript or Supplementary Information.

When referring to your own work in the manuscript, use neutral terminology. Replace phrases like as we have shown before with as has been shown before or similar.

Remove any author names from the figures.

Include acknowledgements, author information/contributions, and author name order in the cover letter, not in the manuscript. This information can be transferred after the completion of the peer review process.

Remove any author information from all submitted files metadata. This information is often added automatically from the identity information on your computer, and can be found in properties under the file menu in word processors and PDF readers.

Include your complete competing interests declaration in your cover letter and NOT in the submission system. Instead, in the submission system, provide a minimal statement (either The authors declare the existence of a financial non-financial competing interest” OR “The authors declare no competing interests”), which will be shown to reviewers. For published manuscripts, reviewers will be provided the full competing interests declaration at the time of acceptance.

Do not add names to any document included with your submission.

Preparation of Articles

Cover letter

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter, including statements that:

l  All authors agree with the submission;

l  The work has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere, either completely or in part, or in another form or language;

l  No materials are reproduced from another source (if there is material in your manuscript which has been reproduced from another source, please change this item to 'there are some materials which are reproduced from other sources. We have gotten authorizations from the copyright holders to use them, and have included these authorizations with this submission');

l  The copyright of the manuscripts will transfer to CJEM upon it is accepted.

Types of Contributions

Reviews should give a critical overview of a particular field, providing the reader with an appreciation of the importance of the work, a summary of recent developments, a balanced discussion of problems and progress, and well selected literature coverage.

Full Papers report comprehensive details of completed studies, whether experimental or theoretical. All contributions will be judged on the criteria of originality, quality and novelty and will be peer-reviewed. The manuscript should be divided into sections in the following order: Abstract, Introduction, Experimental, Results & Discussion, Conclusions, References, and Acknowledgements.

Short Communications are unsolicited, short reports, in which preliminary results might be presented.

Author list includes byline all those who have made substantial contributions to the work. The correspondence author should be designated by an asterisk.

Abstract should briefly state the reason for the work, the significant results and conclusions.

Keywords around 3~10 should be provided to assist readers and index in cross-indexing this study.

References

Responsibility for the accuracy of references rests with the authors. Only published papers or papers in press should be referenced. References are to be numbered sequentially in the order in which they are cited in the text. The numbers should be enclosed in square brackets. References are to be collected in numerical order at the end of the manuscript under the heading References. Note that journal and book titles should be in italics, and the volume number of journals in italics.

 Artwork

Every figure must be referred to in the text and numbered with Arabic numerals in the sequence in which they appear in the text. All figures will be printed in black and white. For colored artwork, authors are expected to make a contribution per figure/scheme (incl. taxes) towards the extra costs for color reproduction.

Figures (especially half-tone or gray-scale images) must be stored as TIF or JPG files. Files for figures must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Tables

Tables must be referred to in the text and numbered with Arabic numerals in the sequence in which they occur. Every table must begin with a caption, which must explain the contents of the table in detail. Footnotes to a table should be indicated by lowercase letters in parentheses and be typed directly below the table. Tables should have the absolute minimum of horizontal and no vertical lines (two horizontal as header, one at the base).

 Mathematical Equations

Equations should appear in the manuscript where they belong. They should always stand alone, i.e. occupy extra lines. They may be marked with Arabic numerals in parentheses if referred to in the text repeatedly.

Quantities, Units, Abbreviations

Only SI quantities and units should be used. Symbols and abbreviations used to represent variables, constants, quantities, properties etc. must be defined in the text at their first occurrence. In addition, it may be advisable to compile a list of all symbols and abbreviations used at the end of the text under the heading Symbols and Abbreviations.

Supporting Information

Supporting Information may be included Supporting Information are part of the manuscript and, as such, they underlie the regular copyright transfer procedure.

Graphic Abstract contains a small diagram or other informative illustration (scheme, formula, figure, etc.) showing the most important aspect of the paper. The graphic abstract should differ from the abstract, not be specific and resultant. The words or sentences in diagram should be concise.

How to Submit

Online Submission

CJEM only accept manuscript submission via our online manuscript submission system. Before submitting a manuscript, authors are encouraged to consult both our Editorial Policies and the Submission Instructions for our online manuscript submission system. If you have not already done so, please register for an account with our online manuscript system. You will be able to monitor the status of your manuscript online throughout the editorial process.

Submission of Revisions

Authors submitting a revised manuscript after review are asked to include the following:

(1) A rebuttal letter, indicating point-by-point how you have addressed the comments raised by the reviewers. If you disagree with any of the points raised, please provide adequate justification in your letter.

(2) A marked-up version of the manuscript that highlights changes made in response to the reviewers' comments in order to aid the Editors and reviewers.

Post-Acceptance

Open Access
