Abstract:Two simultaneous devices, the rapid thermolysis reaction cell (gas reaction cell) in situ in conjuncton with rapid-scan Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (RSFT-IR),and the solid reaction cell in situ with RSFT-IR, are constructed for measuring the gas products and condensed phase products of thermal decomposition of nitrocellulose (NC) in real time. Two methods for determining the above mentioned products are presented. Under linear temperature increase condition, the thermal decomposition reaction of NC are experimentally studied, and a mechanism for this reaction is proposed based on the results.

Abstract:The thermal decomposition behavior of TNT was investigated in pure N2 with constant rate-controlled heating. By means of TG-FTIR,the evoloved gases, mainly 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene and CO2,were determined. The results show that the thermal decomposition process of TNT and its mechanism conform to the conclusion reported by Shackelford.

Abstract:Thermal decomposition of three modified double-base propellants and their major component RDX were investigated by using high pressure differential scanning calorimeter(DSC).The change of the decomposition peak temperature, the peak tempertures difference, the apparent enthalpy and the curves of decomposition at different pressures were observed. The influence of pressure and the burning catalyst on the process of thermal decomposition were discussed and tentatively correlated with the burning rate and the pressure exponent of burning rate.

Abstract:The characteristics of the boron-based fuel-rich propellant and its modification techniques are reviewed. It is well known that the combustion heat of boron is very-high but its ignition and combustion behaviors are much poor. It is reported that these shortcomings can be improved by coating boron powder to dispel the B2O3 skin, adding some inflammable metals and energetic binders.
